Hurvin Anderson is the Birmingham-born painter of barbershops, Caribbean gardens and Trinidad landscapes, and a Royal Academician since 2023. Here you will find the Hurvin Anderson prints and editions you can still buy, where his work is on show, recent auction results, and our 5/5 review of his 2026 Tate Britain survey.

Our take on Hurvin Anderson

Anderson paints two places at once. His parents came to Birmingham from Jamaica, and his pictures keep moving between the city he grew up in and the Caribbean he visits: barbershop interiors with handwritten price lists, lush gardens seen through fences and grilles, and Trinidad landscapes painted after a residency there in 2002. Tate puts it as “being in one place but thinking about another”, in his words.

I gave his Tate Britain survey 5/5 this spring. Standing in front of the big canvases, I wrote: “It is mesmerising.” Anderson’s own explanation for why he paints at all is simpler: “It’s like a fundamental act to want to paint, to want to represent your environment in some way,” he told Art UK.

His paintings now sell for six and seven figures, and the Tate edition made for the show sold out. So Hurvin Anderson prints are scarce, and the realistic ways in are the signed Tate monograph and the open-edition reproductions.
