Raphaella Pester is the British artist who makes quilted and embroidered textiles coloured with earth she gathers on the Cornish and Devon coast. Here you will find our take on her work and where to see it in London.

Our take on Raphaella Pester

Pester makes drawings, prints and quilted and patchwork textiles from found or recycled materials, coloured with pigments she gathers by hand, mainly from coastal Cornwall and Devon, according to Patrick Heide Contemporary Art.

Her themes are landscape, folklore and memory. Her Slade degree show statement describes a “geometric language of abstraction” drawing on the coast, British folklore and early 20th-century mysticism, according to UCL.

She showed THE CHANNEL, quilted cotton painted with Devonshire clay, at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2024. Patrick Heide in St John’s Wood lists her 2026 works, with prices on request.
