Harry Gruyaert is the Belgian Magnum photographer known for saturated colour, from Morocco to the TV screen. Here you will find our take on his work, his Paris show and the Magnum prints you can buy.

Our take on Harry Gruyaert

Colour is as much the subject as the place in Gruyaert’s photographs, as the title of his 2025 show in Germany, A World in Colour, suggests. “For me, photography is not only a matter of composition or color, it must also talk about place and time,” he says on his Magnum page.

His books include Morocco, Rivages, East/West and India. One early project, TV Shots, photographed the television screen to make a portrait of England.

Magnum’s current Square Print Sale includes his Robert Altman set-up. Paris, France, 1984, signed, until 1 November 2026.
