Julio Le Parc is the Argentine-born artist whose light installations and moving works turn visitors into participants. Here you will find our take on his work, his Tate Modern show running to May 2027, and the £20 exhibition book.
Our take on Julio Le Parc
Le Parc builds with light, mirrors and motion. Tate Modern’s show, Julio Le Parc: Light. Colour. Action., covers seven decades, from the late 1950s to the 2020s, and its interactive pieces ask visitors to take part rather than stand back.
He moved from Argentina to Paris in 1958 and in 1960 co-founded the Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel with François Morellet and others, according to Tate. In 1966 he won the main painting prize at the Venice Biennale.
Tate holds 62 of his works, including Continual Mobile, Continual Light (1963). The show runs until 3 May 2027.
