Douglas Gordon is the Glasgow-born artist who slowed Psycho down to last 24 hours and won the Turner Prize in 1996. Here you will find our take on his films and text works, and where he is showing in 2026.
Our take on Douglas Gordon
Gordon’s 24 Hour Psycho (1993) plays Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 film so slowly that it lasts a full day, a work about memory and anticipation, according to National Galleries Scotland. He won the Turner Prize three years later, in 1996.
With Philippe Parreno he made Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait (2006), which follows the footballer Zinédine Zidane through a match instead of the ball.
That film anchored his 2026 show at Gagosian Beverly Hills, alongside his neon and vinyl text works.
