Padella: Iconic Pasta at Home is the first cookbook from Padella, the London pasta restaurant, written by its co-founder Tim Siadatan. It has the recipes for the dishes people queue for, including the pappardelle with beef shin ragu and the pici cacio e pepe, plus how to make fresh pasta at home. It won Waterstones Gift Book of the Year 2025, according to its publisher, and I checked the prices and stock on Amazon and Bookshop.org on 13 October 2026, when Amazon had the hardback at £20.53.

The book has the restaurant's best-known plates: pappardelle with beef shin ragu, pici cacio e pepe, fettuccine with 'nduja and mascarpone, and tagliarini with crab, chilli, lemon and parsley. It also includes new and off-menu dishes that the restaurant had not published before.
Beyond the recipes, there are step-by-step guides to the equipment and the techniques for making fresh pasta by hand. Recipes range from quick weeknight dishes to slower seasonal ones. It is bound in real cloth and illustrated with photographs of the kitchens, markets and landscapes of Italy.
Padella has three London sites, at Borough Market, Shoreditch and Soho, and its sister restaurant is Trullo in Highbury. It is known for fresh pasta at low prices and for the queues outside the Borough Market branch. The book has praise from cooks including Jamie Oliver, Yotam Ottolenghi and Rachel Roddy, who calls it "an extremely handsome, useful and inspiring book".
It suits anyone who has eaten at Padella and wants to make the ragu at home. It also fits a confident home cook who wants to start making fresh pasta, because the technique sections cover the kit and the method. And for someone who collects good-looking cookbooks, the cloth binding makes it one to keep out on the shelf.
Fresh pasta takes time and some practice, and several of the best-known recipes rely on it. A cook who wants quick dinners from dried pasta will use only part of the book. Some recipes also call for Italian ingredients such as 'nduja, which a smaller supermarket may not stock.
Amazon UK had the hardback at £20.53, in stock. Bookshop.org had it at £23.75, ready to despatch, and every order there supports independent bookshops. For another cookbook to give, see Japan: The Cookbook.
