The Hive Thermostat is a smart thermostat from Centrica, the owner of British Gas, that lets you run your heating and hot water from a dial on the wall or from the Hive app. Amazon UK sells it with the Hive Nano 3 hub for £164.98, sold and dispatched by Amazon and in stock on 4 October 2026. Bought from Hive, the same thermostat and hub cost £199.

What the Hive Thermostat does
The thermostat replaces the wall thermostat or programmer that switches your boiler on and off. You set schedules in the app, with up to six time slots a day for heating and for hot water, and the boiler follows them.
The hub connects the thermostat to your home internet. That is what lets you change the temperature from your phone when you are out. The Nano 3 hub in the Amazon bundle connects over Wi-Fi, so it does not need an Ethernet cable.
The features that change your bills
- Boost: one button on the dial or in the app turns the heating or hot water on for an hour, or up to six hours, then it switches itself off.
- Holiday mode: you give Hive your travel dates, and it keeps the heating off until just before you get back.
- Frost protection: the heating comes on by itself in very cold weather to stop pipes freezing.
- Geolocation alerts: the app warns you if you leave home with the heating still on.
- OpenTherm: on a compatible combi boiler, the thermostat can turn the boiler's flame up and down instead of just on and off. Hive says this cuts gas bills by up to 12% compared with a standard room thermostat.

The limits
Check your boiler first. The Amazon bundle is sold for conventional boilers with heating and hot water control. If you have a combi boiler with no hot water tank, Hive sells a heating-only version, so make sure you order the right one.
Installation is the other cost. The thermostat replaces wired boiler controls, so use a qualified installer if you are not confident with mains wiring. Hive offers its own installation, by British Gas-backed engineers, when you buy direct from hivehome.com.
Hive's own savings figure is up to £182 a year, worked out from Ofgem's medium household gas use of 9,500kWh. Your saving depends on how you heat your home now, and Hive says actual savings will vary.
Saver mode needs a Hive+ subscription. The thermostat's schedules, boost, holiday mode and app control all work without one.
