Petit Pli [MSK] pleated face mask in dark purple Lilac Nebula on a grey background

Petit Pli Face Mask

Last updated: 24 October 2026

The Petit Pli face mask, sold as the [MSK], is a reusable, non-medical face covering made from recycled plastic bottles and folded like origami so it follows the shape of your face. TIME named it one of its best inventions of 2020. Petit Pli sells it for £14.50 in two sizes and six colours, with two carbon filters included.

What the Petit Pli face mask is

Petit Pli is the London design company behind children's clothes that grow, using pleated fabric that stretches as a child gets bigger. It launched the [MSK] in 2020, using the same pleated, recycled material for a face covering.

The pleats let the mask follow the contours of your face, and it is supported at the neck rather than only at the ears. In 2022 Petit Pli won an £84,065 Innovate UK grant to improve the design and expand production.

What it does

  • Contoured fit: the folded fabric shapes itself around your nose, cheeks and chin.
  • Neck support: it fastens behind the neck with strong black hook and loop, and can drop down to sit as a collar between wears.
  • Filter pocket: a pocket takes a PM2.5 carbon filter, and two come in the pack.
  • Adjustable: both sizes have more than one adjustment setting, and a spare, replaceable nose wire helps it fit more faces.
  • Reusable: it is made to be worn again and again, rather than thrown away like a disposable mask.

Key facts

  • Price: £14.50 from Petit Pli

  • Material: lightweight ripstop fabric from recycled bottles, in a single-fibre construction
  • Made: engineered in London and built in Portugal
  • In the pack: the mask, a spare nose wire and two PM2.5 carbon filters
  • Status: a non-medical face covering

Who the Petit Pli face mask suits

  • Commuters who still mask on busy trains: it is light and sits as a collar when you take it off.
  • Design fans: TIME's 2020 list picked it out for its origami-style folds.
  • Families: the Medium size suits smaller faces, so a child and a parent can match.
  • People who want to cut waste: a reusable mask made from recycled bottles replaces a pile of disposables.

The limits

It is not a medical mask. Petit Pli sells it as a non-medical face covering, so it is not a substitute for a certified respirator where one is required.

You cannot return it. Petit Pli accepts no changes or returns on the mask for hygiene reasons, so check the size guide before you order.

Stock is patchy. On Petit Pli's shop six of the twelve size and colour options were sold out, including both sizes of Polar Blue.

It fastens with hook and loop behind the neck rather than elastic over the ears. If you prefer ear loops, this is a different style, and returns are not an option.

Where to buy the Petit Pli face mask in the UK

Petit Pli sells it direct from its own shop, and the size guide and full specification are on the Petit Pli [MSK] product page. TIME's write-up is on its 2020 best inventions list.
