Last updated: 4 October 2026

Shower Blocks are solid shower gel bars, handmade in the UK, that lather like shower gel but come without a plastic bottle or plastic packaging. The essential oil range is scented only with essential oils, and each 100g bar replaces one and a half plastic bottles, according to the maker. On 4 October 2026 Amazon UK sold the mixed essential oil 3 pack for £10.85, sold by Amazon.

How Shower Blocks work

A Shower Block is a bar of shower gel rather than a bar of soap. You wet it and rub it on your skin or a flannel, and it foams up the way a liquid gel does.

The bars are made from six vegetable oils: hemp seed, olive, coconut, sunflower, castor and palm. The palm oil is RSPO certified, which means it comes from plantations signed up to the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil standard. There is no SLS, SLES or parabens, and the bars are suitable for vegans.

The essential oil range comes in three scents: lemon and rosemary, sweet orange and bergamot, and cedarwood and eucalyptus.

  • Anyone cutting bathroom plastic: a bar does the job of a bottle of gel with nothing to recycle afterwards.

  • Travellers: a solid bar does not count towards the liquids allowance in hand luggage.

The limits

Bars go soft if they sit in water. Keep each one on a draining soap dish between showers or it will wear down much faster.

The bars contain palm oil. It is RSPO certified, but some buyers avoid palm oil altogether.

Amazon only stocks the 3 pack. Shower Blocks' own shop sells single bars at £5, so £10.85 for three on Amazon is the cheaper way in, while the maker's 6 pack of essential oil bars costs £27.

Where to buy Shower Blocks in the UK
