We have not fitted this Segway Navimow i208 ourselves. Everything here is drawn from the manufacturer's published specification, named UK retailers, and testing by BBC Gardeners' World, T3 and Ideal Home. Where those tests disagree, we say so rather than picking the flattering one.
What the Segway Navimow i208 is
The i2 series arrived in Europe in February 2026. Crucially, it dropped the RTK antenna that earlier Navimow models relied on. Instead it uses solid-state LiDAR paired with a 140 degree colour camera that Segway calls VisionFence.
That change matters more than it sounds. Older wire-free mowers needed a satellite antenna on a mast, positioned with a clear view of the sky. Trees, walls and roof overhangs all caused trouble. LiDAR sidesteps that problem entirely, because the mower reads the garden rather than the sky.
The i208 is the 800 square metre model in the range. Segway also sells smaller and larger versions, so check the number before you buy. Furthermore, the i208 ships in two variants, with and without the garage housing, at different prices.

The i208 LiDAR sits at £999 at the Robot Lawnmower Shop, reduced from £1,099. Segway's own Navimow UK store lists it at £1,099, with promotional pricing appearing periodically. Amazon UK stocks both the standard unit and the version bundled with the Garage M housing.
On timing, August is mid-cycle rather than a bargain window. Nothing new is due until spring 2027, so you are buying current hardware either way. However, robot mower demand falls off through autumn, and retailers clear stock before the new season. Black Friday has historically been the cheapest point of the year in this category.
What independent testing found
BBC Gardeners' World gave the i208 four and a half stars and praised what it called effortless automapping. Its two criticisms were specific. The centrally mounted deck cannot reach lawn borders, and it struggles on steeper ground.
Ideal Home named it the quietest mower in its group test. It also flagged the 22cm cutting width as the widest on test and the fastest mapping of the bunch. The trade-off is weight, since at 14.7kg it was the heaviest machine there.
T3 tells a different story, and this is the important one. Its automapping failed outright during testing, despite repeated attempts. The reviewer fell back to roughly ten minutes of manual boundary setup and concluded that the process contradicts the drop-and-mow marketing.
Two respected publications loved the automapping. A third could not get it to work at all. Consequently the honest reading is that setup is variable, not effortless, so plan an afternoon rather than five minutes.
The two problems owners actually hit
It will not cut to the edge
No wire-free robot mower cuts right up to a wall, fence or solid border. The i208 is no exception, and Gardeners' World said so directly. You will still be strimming edges by hand. Any guide claiming a robot mower ends strimming is simply wrong.
Missed patches, and they get worse in autumn
Segway's own support pages list nine causes of missed areas. Several are seasonal problems in a British garden. A dirty camera lens or LiDAR window triggers false obstacle detection, while long grass and narrow passages cause avoidance. That is exactly what wet leaves and mud do from September onwards.
Segway's knowledge base also carries separate articles for mapping failure across the i-series. The suggested fixes are generic, covering firmware updates and app reinstalls, and no root cause is named. Keep the sensor window clean and expect to reset the map occasionally.
Who the Navimow i208 suits
It suits a lawn between roughly 200 and 800 square metres, with slopes under 45 per cent. It suits gardens with tree cover, where older satellite-guided mowers struggled. Above all, it suits someone who has stopped enjoying Sunday mornings.
It does not suit very large or very steep plots. For those, the Mammotion Luba range handles gradients up to 80 per cent and took the top score in the same Gardeners' World test. Nor does it suit anyone expecting a fully hands-off lawn, given the edging point above.
Running it through autumn and winter
The Royal Horticultural Society puts the UK mowing season at roughly March to October, with autumn cuts dropping to weekly or fortnightly. So a mower bought in August still earns two or three months of work this year.
Better still, buying now gives you time to build and tune the map in decent light. Mapping a lawn in February drizzle is a considerably worse experience. Then store it charged and indoors over winter, and clean the LiDAR window before it goes away.
