The schedules are stored on the timer itself, so it keeps watering when your broadband or phone is out of range. What the Eve Aqua smart tap timer is
Eve Aqua is a battery-powered valve that sits between your outside tap and your hose. You set up to seven watering periods a day in the Eve app or Apple's Home app, and the valve opens and closes on time.
Eve is a German smart home company that makes accessories for Apple Home. The current Eve Aqua connects over Bluetooth and Thread, the low-power network that Apple's HomePod mini and newer Apple TVs use to reach smart home devices.
What it does
- Schedules on the device: watering runs on time with no bridge and no internet connection in the garden.
- Remote control: with a HomePod, HomePod mini or Apple TV at home, you can start or pause watering while you are away.
- Auto shut-off: when you start watering by hand, Eve Aqua turns the water off again after a time you set once.
- Onboard button and child lock: you can start watering from the button on the unit, and lock that button from the Eve app.
- Water use: the Eve app works out how much water each session used.

Who the Eve Aqua suits
- iPhone households with an outside tap: setup happens in apps you already have.

The limits
Eve Aqua works with Apple Home only. Eve's requirements list an iPhone or iPad, and there is no Android app.
Control from outside the house needs a home hub: a HomePod, HomePod mini or Apple TV. Without one, you are limited to Bluetooth range from the garden.
There is no built-in rain sensor or weather skip. Trusted Reviews called the weather compensation "slightly clunky" and paused watering with a Siri Shortcut that checks the forecast.
The IPX4 rating covers splashes, and the operating range stops at 4°C. So unscrew it and bring it indoors before the first frost.
