What the X-Sense SC07-WX is

It is one unit with two sensors inside: a photoelectric sensor for smoke and an electrochemical sensor for carbon monoxide. It joins your router over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, with no hub needed.

It also fills the gap left by the Google Nest Protect, which Google announced it was discontinuing on 28 March 2025.

What it does

  • Phone alerts: the X-Sense Home Security app, for iPhone and Android, pushes smoke and CO warnings.
  • A loud siren: X-Sense rates the alarm at 85dB or more at 3 metres.
  • Silence: a nuisance alarm can be hushed for up to 9 minutes.
  • Interconnection: X-Sense says it links with its other Wi-Fi alarms on the same app account.
  • A replaceable battery: one CR123A lithium cell, which you swap when it runs low.

Key facts about the X-Sense smoke and CO alarm

  • Price: £45.99 for one alarm on Amazon UK on 5 October 2026
  • Standards: EN 14604 (smoke) and EN 50291 (CO), as listed by X-Sense
  • Battery: one replaceable CR123A, rated for about 1 year
  • Product life: 10 years from the date of manufacture
  • Wi-Fi: 2.4GHz only, not 5GHz
  • Hub: not needed, and it does not work with the X-Sense SBS50 base station

Who it suits

  • Nest Protect owners: anyone replacing one who still wants alerts on their phone.
  • People who travel or work away: the app tells you about an alarm you cannot hear.
  • Homes with a gas boiler or wood burner: one unit covers both smoke and CO.

The limits

X-Sense rates the battery at about a year, whereas its non-Wi-Fi SC07-W has a 10-year battery. The government's guidance for landlords and tenants calls sealed-for-life batteries "the better option" for battery alarms.

It only works on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, so a 5GHz-only network will not do.

Placement also needs thought. The same guidance puts CO alarms at head height, about 1 to 3 metres from the appliance. So check the X-Sense manual before fixing a combined unit.
