Veronica Ryan is the Montserrat-born sculptor who won the Turner Prize in 2022 and made the Windrush sculptures in Hackney. Here you will find the Veronica Ryan prints and editions you can buy, where to see her work free right now, and our review of her 2026 Whitechapel survey.

Our take on Veronica Ryan

Ryan makes small, quiet sculptures from things most people throw away or overlook: fruit stones, seed pods, fabric, wax and pins, often cast in bronze or stitched and stacked in boxes. Her mother, a quiltmaker, taught her to sew, and stitching runs through the work. Her best-known pieces are outdoors: a giant custard apple, breadfruit and soursop in marble and bronze in Narrow Way Square, Hackney, unveiled in 2021 as the UK’s first permanent public artworks honouring the Windrush generation.

I was less convinced by her Whitechapel survey this spring and gave it 2/5. It “tries to say everything at once and ends up saying very little clearly”, although “the rediscovered 1980s works are the real highlight”. Ryan herself has said: “I’m really interested in contradiction and paradox and how that really speaks to our wider culture,” in a Tate film.

Her work rarely comes up at auction, so the museum shops are where to buy. Veronica Ryan prints start at £500, and a small bronze edition is £2,000.
