The Double Helpings plates are fine china dinner plates printed with artworks by Gilbert and George, sold to raise money for The Canvas Cafe in east London. The cafe is a social enterprise that funds free meals for homeless people and families in need. Duchess China made the plates in Stoke-on-Trent, and the first two designs sold for £125 each in December 2019.

What the Double Helpings plates were

The Canvas Cafe, founded by Ruth Rogers, ran Double Helpings with the agency Wieden+Kennedy London. The first two plates, On the Bench and Rosy, used pictures from Gilbert and George's Paradisical Pictures show, according to Creative Boom.

Rogers said at the launch: "We believe humans are amazing; you just need to give them the opportunity to be so."

The 2021 sets

A second round followed in March 2021. It's Nice That reported 12-inch plates screen printed in up to 17 colours, sold in numbered sets of two for £500, in editions of 50.
