Shunshun is the Hiroshima artist and former architect who draws seas, landscapes and light in thousands of fine lines. Here you will find our take on his work, his current museum show, and where to buy an original.
Our take on Shunshun
Shunshun trained and worked as an architect, then left his design firm after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and started drawing as shunshun in 2012, according to his own site. His signature series, sen, is drawn freehand.
He made his name with ballpoint pen line drawings. His recent works for his Geneva gallery are listed as ink and acrylic on paper, and his 2026 museum piece Park is drawn in navy POSCA pen on canvas.
His own statement puts it this way: “Drops of lights appear where I haven’t touched / Shadows are perhaps all we could portray.” Originals are sold through Taste Contemporary in Geneva, on request.
