This Ajamu limited edition print is Power Drill Heels, a 2021 black and white photograph by the British artist Ajamu, sold only through Autograph, the London photography charity. It is a 10 x 8 inch fibre silver gelatin print in an edition of 30, signed and numbered on the back. Autograph sells it for £360 including VAT, and it was in stock when I checked on 15 October 2026.
The black and white photograph pairs high heels with a power drill bit. The feet belong to Ajamu’s muse, Seyon Amosu.
Autograph says the image was partly inspired by Geoff Nicholson’s 1996 novel Footsucker. Ajamu calls it “a homage to this book and my love of feet and heels”, and says it comes from his own desire for feminine black men in heels. He adds that the drill bit is a phallic symbol and also a nod to a unicorn’s horn.
Ajamu was born in Huddersfield in 1963, to parents who moved to Britain from Jamaica in 1961, according to a 2020 frieze profile. He has photographed black queer bodies, desire and pleasure for more than 30 years.
He still works almost entirely with film and prints in a darkroom at his London home. In 2005 he co-founded rukus! with Topher Campbell, an archive of Black British LGBT life and culture.

At 10 x 8 inches it is small, and the image itself is 7 inches square. It suits a desk, a shelf or a gallery wall of small works better than a large empty wall.
It arrives unframed, so budget for framing on top of £360. Autograph also notes that fibre-based paper may not lie completely flat, which is normal for this kind of print.
Ajamu describes the picture in terms of his own desire, so it will not suit every room or every recipient.
Autograph is the only seller. It sells the print direct from its online shop, ships within two to three working days and includes VAT in the price for UK buyers. Once the 30 prints sell, there will be no more from this edition.
£360 including VAT from Autograph, checked on 15 October 2026. It is sold unframed.
The edition is 30, plus 5 artist’s proofs. Each print is signed, numbered and stamped on the back.
A fibre silver gelatin print, which is a traditional darkroom photographic print. It is not an inkjet or giclée print.
Yes. He is often listed as Ajamu X, and Autograph lists him as Ajamu.
Autograph is a registered charity, and it says income from its shop supports its archive, its artists and its arts and learning programmes.
