This Ryan Gander print, For I am a sign of a sign, Crying hat, lost without communication, is a Royal Academy edition of 100, signed, dated and numbered by the artist. Gander, who coordinated the 2026 Summer Exhibition, made it from a series of paintings he created with his non-verbal son. It is a 50 x 50cm screenprint and digital print, and the RA shop sells it for £600. It was available to buy on 7 October 2026.
The print comes from Gander's recent series of paintings, For I am a sign. The series looks at the gap between spoken and non-verbal communication. Gander made the paintings with his non-verbal son, who chose the images, and Gander then painted them.
This image references the Picture Exchange Communication System, known as PECS. It is a set of picture cards that SEND professionals use to communicate with children who don't speak.
Gander lives and works in Suffolk. According to the RA, his work over two decades spans sculpture, writing, architecture, painting, typefaces and performance, and he also teaches. Our Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2026 review covers the show he coordinated.
There is no certificate of authenticity, so the signature and the number on the print are your record. Keep the RA receipt with it.
The price is for the print unframed, so framing adds to the cost.
The Royal Academy shop sells it directly. The RA aims to deliver artwork within 14 days, and UK delivery is free on orders over £50. The RA is also a member of the Own Art scheme, which offers finance for buying original art.
