The Burberry Smythson notebook is a Soho notebook bound in Smythson's cross grain lambskin and lined with Burberry's Vintage Check fabric. The black version is stamped "Rain Check" in gold across the cover.
Inside are 192 leaves of pale blue, gilt-edged Featherweight paper, ruled. It is made in England and costs £210, with free UK delivery. I checked the price and stock on smythson.com on 11 October 2026.
What the collaboration is
Smythson describes the range as uniting "two heritage British brands", with themes of British weather and exploration. The same collection also has a chess roll at £850 and a backgammon roll at £795.
Smythson opened on Bond Street in 1887. In 1908 Frank Smythson created the first portable diary, which Smythson calls "the Panama hat of books". You can read more in the Smythson story.
Burberry Smythson notebook colours
There are four colours at £210, and each has its own gold stamp. Black reads "Rain Check". The other three are Archive Beige, Scarlet Red and Forest Green.
Smythson also sells red and green versions at £225. Those are a different notebook, though. Instead of the Vintage Check lining, they are lined with a vintage-style map of London and printed with weather symbols. So if the check lining is what you want, buy the £210 one.

At 14 x 19.6cm it is roughly the size of a paperback novel, so it fits a work bag but not a pocket.
Who it suits
It suits someone who already loves Smythson, or a Burberry person who keeps lists. Smythson calls the range "a playful ode to the British preoccupation with all things weather", so it also suits someone who always talks about the weather.
However, if they want Smythson quality for less, the Travel and Experiences Panama notebook costs £65 in the same leather.
The limits
It is £210 for a notebook, and the Burberry check only shows when you open the cover. From the outside, it reads as a black Smythson notebook with a gold stamp.
Also, it is lined throughout, so it does not suit someone who sketches.
