Darren Cullen Not Piss Mug

Last updated: 19 October 2026

The Not Piss mug is a pint-size white mug printed with "NOT PISS" in big blue and red capitals, made by the satirical artist Darren Cullen. It is his send-up of the oversized Sports Direct mugs, and his shop describes it as not piss and not a Sports Direct mug. One mug costs £17 from his shop, Spelling Mistakes Cost Lives, or two cost £30.

What the Darren Cullen Not Piss mug is

Darren Cullen is a political artist based in south London who works under the name Spelling Mistakes Cost Lives. He makes parodies of adverts and brands, from a bus mocking Shell's green claims to toys and posters. He told Euronews: "I think about this stuff as anti-advertising, or anti-propaganda."

The Not Piss mug follows the same idea. It copies the shape and colours of Sports Direct's oversized mugs, but swaps the branding for a two-word joke.

What it does

  • Holds a pint: it is a pint-size mug, so one fill is about two normal mugs of tea.
  • Two printed sides: the slogan is printed on both sides of the mug.
  • Dishwasher safe: Cullen's shop says it will survive up to 3,000 washes.

Key facts

  • Price: £17 for one mug, £30 for two
  • Size: pint size
  • Print: both sides
  • Care: dishwasher safe
  • Shipping: worldwide, with EU customs and duty included
  • Sold by: Spelling Mistakes Cost Lives, Darren Cullen's own shop

Who the Not Piss mug suits

  • Big tea drinkers: a pint of tea means fewer trips to the kettle.
  • Fans of satire: it is a small, cheap way to own a piece of Cullen's work.
  • Office kitchens: it is easy to spot in a shared cupboard.

Cullen also makes a ChatGPT Magic 8 Ball, another joke at the expense of big brands.

The limits of the Not Piss mug

The joke is crude. It suits a friend with a sense of humour, and probably not your boss or your gran.

Also, a pint mug is big and heavy when full. As a result, it may not fit under a coffee machine spout or in a small cupboard.

Finally, the print can fade. The shop's care notes say long heat and scrubbing in the dishwasher may dull or scratch the print over time.

Where to buy it in the UK

Darren Cullen sells the mug through his own shop, with no-quibble returns. Two mugs cost £30, which saves £4 on buying them one at a time. The Not Piss mug page has the current price and stock.
