Easy Klein paint is a super-matte, deep blue acrylic made by the British artist Stuart Semple and sold through his shop, Culture Hustle. It is his answer to International Klein Blue (IKB), the colour Yves Klein registered in 1960, and it is non-toxic, so you can brush it straight from the bottle. A 150ml bottle costs £29.99 and a 1 litre bottle costs £139, and both were in stock.
Semple sets out to make colours and art materials that any artist can buy. Easy Klein is the blue he says he always wanted to make. He told Artnet: "The one color that I always really wanted to make was Klein [blue], because I love his work."
Culture Hustle says that, unlike Klein's own formula, its version is non-toxic, does not smell bad and does not clump, which makes it far easier to use in a studio or at a kitchen table.
The paint dries totally flat, with an almost powdery finish that seems to soak up light. Culture Hustle makes it by hand in England.
It suits painters who want an intense flat blue without mixing their own binder. Because it works on most surfaces, it also suits makers painting objects, frames or sculpture.
It also works as a present for an art student, because the paint comes with the story of a French court case. For more ideas, our gifts for artists guide collects presents for creative people.
In 2025 a French court ruled that Easy Klein infringed the Yves Klein trademark and ordered Semple to pay €16,000 in damages, as Artnet reported. Semple denied the claims and said he planned to appeal. Culture Hustle now spells the name as Easy K****n on its shop, and buyers have to confirm they are not one of Klein's heirs before checkout.
The colour is a tribute, not Klein's own recipe. So if you need the exact IKB formula for restoration or conservation work, this is a different paint.
Finally, Culture Hustle advises against a protective varnish. That keeps the surface matte, but it also leaves a finished piece with no top coat.
Culture Hustle sells Easy Klein direct from its UK shop. We could not find it on Amazon UK, so buy it from the maker.

No. It is Stuart Semple's own formula, made to look like the blue Yves Klein registered in 1960. Unlike Klein's mix, it is non-toxic and does not clump.
After a French court ruled that the name infringed the Yves Klein trademark, Culture Hustle began spelling it Easy K****n.
Yes. Culture Hustle says to dilute it with 40% water before spraying.
Culture Hustle advises against it, because a top coat can reduce the matte finish and dull the colour.
