What the FYTA Beam G2 measures

• Soil moisture: volumetric water content, so you see how wet the soil actually is.
• Nutrients: electrical conductivity (EC), a guide to when the plant needs feeding. The G2 can also measure it directly in water for hydroponic set-ups.
• Light: PPFD and daily light integral, the measures plant scientists use.
• Temperature: in °C or °F.

Do you need the Wi-Fi Hub?

Each Beam talks to your phone over Bluetooth, so you can use one without a hub. Then you have to walk past the plant with your phone to update the readings.

The Wi-Fi Hub collects data from every sensor in range and sends it to the app. That gives you push notifications and lets you check plants when you are out. The Starter Set includes one, and it costs £16 more than a single Beam with probes.

The limits

The sensors depend on FYTA's app and cloud. If the company stopped supporting them, most of the useful analysis would go with it.

Without the hub, readings only update when your phone is nearby. Some buyers on FYTA's own review page also report trouble connecting the hub to their Wi-Fi, so put it close to your router.

The 10% applies to a first order only. Buying several Beams at once makes the most of it.
