The FYTA Beam G2 is the second generation of FYTA's smart plant sensor, designed and developed by plant scientists in Berlin. It sits in the soil of any potted plant and continuously tracks four key metrics: volumetric water content (VWC), nutrient concentration (EC), light intensity (PPFD/DLI) and temperature. The FYTA app is free, with no subscription required. It includes a database of over 2,100 plant species, photo-based plant identification and species-specific care recommendations. This is a fair concern with any smart product. FYTA launched via Kickstarter in 2022, recently released the G2 range and secured additional funding. The company appears to be growing, but the sensors do rely on the FYTA cloud and app. Without those, the hardware would lose much of its functionality.
Compared to basic moisture meters (which only measure one metric and offer no app integration), the FYTA system is in a different league. It is pricier than a simple stick-in probe, but the data quality, species-specific analysis and automated alerts justify the cost for serious plant owners.
