What the Curve Table Lamp actually is

A polished chrome cylinder, and a painted metal half-tube sitting on top of it at an angle. The shade rotates on its pivot, so you can throw the light down onto a desk, up at a wall, or sideways at whatever you are reading. There is no diffuser and no switch on the body: the switch is on the cable.

Its shape is a direct lift. The Barbican Hall's walls and ceiling are lined with fat tubular acoustic panels, and the shade is one of those panels shrunk to about the size of a coffee mug and stood on a plinth. Once you have seen the hall, the lamp stops looking like a generic mid-century revival and starts looking like a souvenir of a specific room.

The MADE x Barbican range, and where the shapes come from

MADE and the Barbican put out 23 pieces together in August 2026. The Barbican's own press release gives the retail launch as 17 August; Dezeen covered it on the 18th. Prices start at £32 for a piece of embroidered wall art and run up to £599 for the six-seater dining table.

Each piece points at something on the estate. Beyond the Curve lamps, the Coffer ceiling and wall lights copy the waffle ceilings, the Dual accent chairs take their heavy side panels from the concrete pillars, the Plinth coffee table echoes the sunken seating by the lake, and the Brute rug is redrawn from a carpet in one of Howitt's 1967 show flats. Chamberlin, Powell and Bon designed the estate itself; Howitt is the one who decided what went inside it.

MADE's design team put the ambition this way to Wallpaper*: "The final designs reimagine products, graphics and architectural details through a new lens, and into a cohesive product range that captures Barbican living: bold, considered and inherently social."

Price, colourways and where to buy

The Chrome & Blue lamp is £50 at the Barbican Shop and was in stock on 6 September 2026. MADE sells the same lamp on its own site, but only in Chrome & Red and Chrome & Green, both £50, and both quoted at eight to nine weeks. So if you want the dusty blue shade, the Barbican Shop is the only route, and it is also the faster one.

Barbican Shop delivery is free on orders over £75, so a single lamp does not clear it.

Specification

The bulb, and the thing MADE's own page gets wrong

MADE's listing for this lamp contradicts itself. Its spec panel calls for an E14 LED golf ball at up to 6W, which is the small screw fitting. Two lines further down, the same page recommends "a ES GLS 8W LED bulb", and ES is the big E27 screw fitting. Those two bulbs do not fit the same lamp.

The shade is 7cm across, which settles it in practice: an E27 GLS bulb is wider than that. Buy the small one, an E14 golf ball, and stay at or under 6W. If you order and the fitting turns out to be E27, it is a £2 bulb either way, but you would rather know before you are stood in the dark with the wrong one.

Who it suits

It is a small light with a narrow throw, so it works as a bedside lamp, a desk lamp beside a monitor, or a bit of directed light on a shelf. It is not a room light and it will not read as one. Meanwhile the metal body and the chrome base mean it sits happily next to other hard materials rather than needing a soft corner.

Why now

London Design Festival runs from 12 to 20 September 2026, and MADE is putting a free installation in the Barbican's Level G Hub Space for the duration, showing the collection alongside the archive material behind it. If you want to see the lamp in the room its shade was copied from, that is the window.

How much is the Curve Table Lamp?

£50 at the Barbican Shop, and £50 at MADE for the red and green versions. Barbican Shop delivery is free over £75, so one lamp on its own carries a delivery charge.

Does it come with a bulb?

No. It takes one bulb, and MADE's spec calls for an E14 LED golf ball at up to 6W.

Yes. It rotates on the pivot where it meets the chrome base, so the light can be aimed down, up or sideways. It is not dimmable.
