Anglepoise Type 75 desk lamp in Paul Smith Edition One colours, with a pink arm, yellow and olive lower arms and a grey base

Anglepoise Type 75 Paul Smith Edition One

Last updated: 19 October 2026

The Anglepoise Paul Smith Edition One is the Type 75 desk lamp painted by Paul Smith in a patchwork of colours. The shade is pale putty, the upper arm is pink, the lower arms are olive and yellow, and a blue and red joint sits above a grey base. Underneath the paint it is the standard Type 75, with Anglepoise's tension springs and a reach of 90cm. Anglepoise sells it for £289 with a bulb included and free UK delivery.

What the Anglepoise Paul Smith lamp is

Sir Kenneth Grange designed the Type 75 for Anglepoise. Paul Smith then reworked it in his own colours, and Edition One was the first of those collaborations. A fourth Paul Smith collection followed in 2019, according to Design Milk.

So the lamp works exactly like a plain Type 75. The difference is the paint. Each part of the lamp is a different colour.

What it does

  • Constant tension springs: the arms stay where you put them, with no knobs to tighten.
  • A switch on the shade: you turn it on and off at the head of the lamp, not on the cable.
  • A long reach: the shade reaches up to 90cm from the base, which covers a desk and the area beside it.
  • A heavy base: the base is cast iron with an aluminium cover, so it stays put when the arm is stretched out.

Key facts

  • Price: £289 from Anglepoise, bulb included
  • Materials: matt painted aluminium shade and arms, chrome plated fittings, cast iron base with an aluminium cover
  • Shade: 14.5cm across and 19.2cm tall, about the size of a large mug
  • Base: 19.5cm across
  • Reach: up to 90cm from base to shade
  • Cable: 270cm
  • Guarantee: Anglepoise's Guaranteed for Life, once you register the lamp
  • Other sizes: a Type 75 Mini in the same colours at £249, and a floor lamp at £369

Who it suits

  • People setting up a desk at home: it is a working lamp first, with a long reach and a shade you can point.
  • Paul Smith fans: the stripes and colour blocking are his, applied to a British design classic.
  • A wedding or new home present: it is a single, lasting object rather than something that gets used up.

If you want the plain version, our page on the Anglepoise Original 1227 covers the 1935 design and its UK prices.

The limits of the Paul Smith edition

The price is the main catch. £289 is a lot for a desk lamp, and the Mini in the same colours costs £249 if you want to spend less.

The colours are bold. Every part of the lamp is a different shade, so it will stand out in a room decorated in one or two colours.

It is a big lamp for a small desk. With a 19.5cm base and a 90cm reach, it needs space to work properly, so measure first if your desk is narrow. The Mini version is the better fit there.

Where to buy it in the UK

Anglepoise sells it direct at £289, in stock, with free UK delivery in one to three working days. I struggled to find it on Amazon UK, which only had other Anglepoise models. The full specification is on the Anglepoise product page.
