The Swiss Railways design
The Swiss Federal Railways, the SBB, developed the clock face in 1944 for its stations. Mondaine turned it into a wristwatch in 1986, and the design has stayed the same since. The dial has bold black markers and no numbers, so you can read the time at a glance.
The seconds hand ends in a red disc, and the crown is red too. Mondaine describes the look as influenced by the Bauhaus.
The vegan grape leather strap
Mondaine makes the black strap from 75% eco-composite vegetable material and 25% recycled PET, with grape waste from winemaking in the mix. It has a red lining on the inside and a brushed steel buckle.
The strap is 20mm wide at the lugs, so any 20mm strap fits if you want to swap it later.
