Philips Hue Dimmer Switch remote on its wall plate, on a grey background

Philips Hue Dimmer Switch

Last updated: 27 October 2026

The Philips Hue Dimmer Switch is a battery-powered remote that clips magnetically onto its own wall plate, so it works as a light switch or as a remote you carry round. It needs no wiring and runs on a CR2032 coin cell. However, it does need a Hue Bridge. It costs £19.24 on Amazon UK, based on the price I checked on 27 October 2026.

What the Hue Dimmer Switch is

The switch has four buttons: on and off at the top, brighter and dimmer in the middle, and a Hue button at the bottom for scenes. The remote lifts off a plate that screws or sticks to the wall beside your existing switch, so it suits a rented home where you cannot rewire anything. In addition, Hue lists it as rated for 50,000 clicks. The full specification is on Philips Hue's product page.

What it does

  • Battery: one CR2032 coin cell, included.
  • Mounting: on the wall, standing, or on any magnetic surface.
  • Size: 125 x 80 x 15mm.
  • Lights per switch: up to 50 with a Hue Bridge.

What you need to run it

Hue says a Bridge is required for the current model. My Hue Bridge Pro review covers the hub. Through the Bridge, it also shows up in Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home. Each of those needs its own hub: a HomePod mini or an Apple TV 4K for Apple, or an Echo Hub or Echo Dot Max for Alexa.

The limits

The dimmer sits next to your existing light switch, not in place of it. If someone turns the real switch off, the bulbs lose power and stop responding to the dimmer until it is turned back on. For that reason, the Hue Wall Switch Module suits a home you own, although it means wiring.

Where to buy it in the UK

Amazon UK sells it at £19.24, and Hue at £19.99. My best smart lighting guide covers how I use mine, and my smart home guides gather the rest.
