The Philips Hue White Ambiance B22 is a smart bulb that does every shade of white, from a warm 2200K to a cool 6500K daylight, with no colour. It gives up to 1100 lumens, about the same as an old 75W bulb, from a bayonet cap that fits most UK pendants. Its RRP is £34.99. Amazon UK sells it for a little less, but in late October 2026 its listing was quoting three to six months for delivery, so check the date before you order.

This is the white-only member of the Hue bulb range. Unlike the cheaper Hue White bulb, which stays at one warm tone, it moves between warm and cool white. As a result, it can look like a lamp in the evening and like daylight at a desk. The cap is B22, the push-and-twist bayonet fitting. However, Hue sells separate E27 screw and GU10 spotlight versions, so check your fittings first. The full specification is on Philips Hue's product page.
Out of the box it works over Bluetooth with the Hue app. A Hue Bridge then adds control away from home, switches and sensors. It also adds Matter, which is how it joins Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home. My Hue Bridge Pro review covers the current hub. In addition, Apple Home automations need a home hub such as a HomePod mini or an Apple TV 4K, and for Alexa an Echo such as the Echo Hub or Echo Dot Max.
Hue lists an F energy label for this bulb, because it draws 11W for 1055 lumens. Under the energy labelling rules, F covers 85 to 110 lumens per watt. It also draws 0.5W in standby, so that the app can switch it on. At four hours a day on and twenty off, that comes to about 19.7kWh a year, or £5.19 at the 26.32p average rate under Ofgem's October to December 2026 price cap. By comparison, the non-smart Philips Ultra Efficient B22 is rated A, at 4W for 840 lumens, and costs about £1.54 a year on the same basis.
The F label and the standby draw are the main catches, and they add up across a house full of bulbs. Also, there is no colour, so it cannot go into amber or red. On top of that, Hue rates it for 25,000 hours, half the 50,000 of Philips' A-rated Ultra Efficient bulbs. Meanwhile, Hue now sells a newer White Ambiance A67 B22 with 1600 lumens and a D rating, at £49.99 from Hue.
The single B22 bulb has an RRP of £34.99, and Amazon UK sells it for a little less. Philips Hue's own shop had it out of stock in late October 2026. My best smart lighting guide explains why I prefer white ambiance to colour for most rooms, and my smart home guides gather the rest of the smart home coverage.

No. It works over Bluetooth with the Hue app. However, you need a Bridge for switches, sensors, control away from home and Matter.
Hue White stays at one warm white. In contrast, Hue White Ambiance moves between warm 2200K and cool 6500K, so the same bulb works for evenings and for working.
