What the Marna Piggy Steamer is
Marna started in Tokyo in 1872 as a brush maker and now makes kitchen tools. Its pig lid is an otoshibuta, the Japanese drop lid that sits directly on food while it simmers. That keeps the pieces from tumbling about and breaking up, and spreads the liquid over the top.
The pig version is made of thin, soft silicone, so it bends to fit the food and folds away in a drawer. The two nostrils let steam out, and they double as a grip: you can lift the lid out with chopsticks or a fork.
