The Hurvin Anderson silk scarf is a 90cm square of pure silk printed with details from his 2017 painting Ascension, with hand-rolled green edges. Tate made it for its Hurvin Anderson exhibition at Tate Britain and sells it only through the Tate Shop. On 11 October 2026 it was still in stock online at £140.
Ascension is one of Anderson's botanical paintings, full of foliage in cascading pinks, blues and greens. Tate has cropped details of it across the silk, so the scarf reads as a pattern rather than a postcard of the whole picture.
Tate describes it as large enough to wear at the neck, as a headscarf or over the shoulders. It also suggests hanging it as textile art at home, which suits a scarf at this price.
Anderson was born in Birmingham in 1965 to Jamaican parents and studied at Wimbledon School of Art and the Royal College of Art. He was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 2017, and he is best known for his barbershop interiors and Caribbean landscapes.
Tate Britain gave him his first major survey in 2026, with about 80 works. It closed on 23 August 2026. Our Hurvin Anderson Tate Britain review covers the show, and Tate's artist page lists his works in the collection.
£140 is a lot for a printed scarf. You are paying for the artwork and the Tate connection as well as the silk.
The exhibition has closed, and Tate tends to wind down show merchandise once the gallery moves on. Stock may not be replaced when it runs out.
Standard UK delivery can take up to three weeks, so allow time if it is a present.
The Tate Shop sells it online, and its Hurvin Anderson collection has the rest of the exhibition range. Buying from the shop supports Tate's galleries.
For a cheaper way into contemporary art, the Art on a Postcard sales sell small original works for charity.
