The HomePod mini 2 is Apple's small smart speaker, rebuilt with the S10 chip for Siri AI and given a light on top that pulses with your music. It costs £149 on Apple's UK store in pink, green, blue, white and midnight. Pre-orders opened on 13 October 2026 and Apple says it arrives from Friday 30 October. Siri AI follows later in a free software update. I checked the price and dates on Apple's UK store on 13 October 2026.
First, the chip. The S10 runs Apple's computational audio and is ready for Siri AI, the rebuilt Siri. Apple says Siri AI comes to the HomePod mini 2 "in a future software update", so it does not arrive with the speaker on 30 October. Once it does, the speaker can recognise up to six voices in a household and answer from each person's own messages and calendar.
Second, Sound Glow. The top of the speaker glows and pulses in time with the music, in colours taken from the album artwork. You can also pick a soundscape such as rain to set off its own animation.
Third, home cinema. With the new Apple TV 4K, four HomePod mini 2 speakers now make a four-speaker surround system, in matching front and rear pairs. In addition, the HomePod mini 2 can be the speaker for a Mac with Wi-Fi 6E or later.
"HomePod mini 2 brings together Siri AI, gorgeous new colours, and incredible audio," said Kaiann Drance, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Home Product Marketing, in Apple's announcement.
The full list is on Apple's HomePod mini 2 technical specifications page.
The 2020 HomePod mini cost £129 on Apple's UK store on 12 October 2026, so the new one is £20 more. Apple's announcement ties Siri AI, Sound Glow and four-speaker surround sound to the HomePod mini 2.
If you mostly ask your speaker for music, timers and the weather, the 2020 model already does that. Meanwhile, Siri AI on an iPhone still has problems: my Siri AI review logged connection errors at least three times a day across three weeks. So the strongest reason to buy the new one on day one is the surround sound with the new Apple TV, not Siri AI.
Siri AI is not there at launch. When it arrives, it needs the owner of the home in the Home app to have an Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad, and it works in English only.
It needs an iPhone or iPad to set up, so it is the wrong speaker for an Android home.
Finally, it is small. One speaker will not fill a large open-plan room the way a full-size HomePod does.
Apple takes pre-orders on its UK store and in the Apple Store app, with delivery and in-store availability from 30 October 2026.

I buy Apple Gift Cards in the JamDoughnut app, then spend them with Apple. JamDoughnut paid 2% instant cashback on Apple Gift Cards when I checked on 13 October 2026. The card covers hardware from an Apple Store or apple.com, plus App Store purchases and iCloud+. I bought my Mac this way. Apple takes up to eight gift cards per order, but not alongside PayPal or Apple financing.
Rates can change, so check the app before you buy. My JamDoughnut page uses a referral link.
