Jack White is the White Stripes musician and Third Man Records founder who showed his sculpture, furniture and paintings in public for the first time in 2026. Here you will find our take on Jack White art, where it was shown, the book and editions you can buy, and our review of his Newport Street Gallery show.
Our take on Jack White
White trained as an upholsterer and opened Third Man Upholstery in 1996, before the band. He calls his work “Hardware Store Art”, a mix of carpentry, upholstery, assemblage and reappropriation, according to the exhibition press kit. He knows the music gets in the way: “If they saw you in The White Stripes, then you’re that guy from The White Stripes for the rest of your life,” he told PA.
I gave These Thoughts May Disappear at Newport Street Gallery 1/5. To my eye it was a misfire: the upholstery is the one part that survives close inspection, while The Red Tree reads as pastiche. Even at its best, the show offered accomplished design where it promised significant art.
Jack White art has no auction market yet. HENI published the book and a set of signed resin editions, which have now closed.
