Ryan Mosley is the Sheffield painter of bearded, top-hatted figures who look like they have wandered out of a folk tale. Here you will find our take on his work, his recent shows, auction results and the £200 charity print we feature.

Our take on Ryan Mosley

Mosley paints three-quarter-length figures in a stage-like world of beards, brick walls and top hats. “I have always been interested in stories from an early age,” he told Cass Art in 2020, adding that he left school at 16 with one GCSE, in art.

His titles often come from music. “I like songs as titles – letting what I listen to in the studio feed in,” he said in a 2025 Artlyst interview. In 2026 he had his first solo show at Sheffield’s Graves Gallery, where he first saw Patrick Caulfield’s The Hermit as a teenager.

The cheapest way in is his History screen print for Alzheimer’s Research UK, at £200. At auction, two very large canvases sold for under £6,000 each in July 2026, at or just above their low estimates.
