Christine Kozlov (1945 to 2005) was the American Conceptual artist who made works out of rejected ideas, erased tapes and telegrams. Here you will find our take on her work and the shows that brought it back.
Our take on Christine Kozlov
Kozlov was part of New York’s first wave of Conceptual art. While at the School of Visual Arts she opened the Lannis Gallery with Joseph Kosuth, and by 1970 she was in MoMA’s Information show. Her work Information: No Theory (1970) is a tape recorder that records the room on a loop and overwrites it.
She was dry about it. In a note from the 1990s, quoted by Texte zur Kunst, she wrote that one work “was a joke on art as idea.”
She moved to the UK in 1977 and largely stopped exhibiting. Her first solo show came ten years after her death, at the Henry Moore Institute, and Raven Row in London showed her work in 2026. Nothing is on sale.
