Paul Morrison is the Sheffield artist who paints plants and night gardens in crisp black and white, shifting their scale so a dandelion can tower over a tree. Here you will find our take on his work, where he has shown, and a signed screenprint you can buy for £1,500.

Our take on Paul Morrison

Morrison draws on botanical illustration, Renaissance art, comics and 1960s Op Art, then flattens it all into hard black and white. Small plants become huge and big trees shrink, so the picture never quite settles.

“I’m interested in the cognitive landscape, the terrain that one sees, somewhere behind the eyes,” he says, as quoted by his publisher on Printed Editions.

His work also runs to murals and sculpture, including a permanent gold-leaf wall painting, Lucid Garden (2019), at the Norton Museum of Art in Florida. For collectors, his screenprints are the way in.
