Christo and Jeanne-Claude are the artists who wrapped the Reichstag and the Pont Neuf, and built The London Mastaba on the Serpentine. Here you will find our take on their work, where to see Christo and Jeanne-Claude now, what you can buy, recent auction results and our review of Christo: Air at Gagosian London.

Our take on Christo and Jeanne-Claude

Their projects were temporary, outdoors and paid for by the artists themselves, mostly through sales of Christo’s preparatory drawings and collages. “Every interpretation of the project is legitimate, even the most critical and the most positive,” Christo told Dezeen in 2018, during The London Mastaba.

That is also why the drawings matter. They are signed “Christo” alone and are what comes up at auction, while the large projects are credited to both artists. Since Christo’s death in 2020, the estate has carried on, realising L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped in Paris in 2021.

I gave Christo: Air at Gagosian 4/5. It was undeniably beautiful, yet it was also safe: a single installation in a free commercial gallery cannot match the scale, struggle and audacity of their outdoor projects.
