Salvatore Fiorello is the Welsh-born, Hackney-based artist who paints small, quiet landscapes of London streets, trees and gardens at twilight. Here you will find our take on his work, where to see Salvatore Fiorello paintings, how to buy one, and his small oil in this year’s War Child auction.

Our take on Salvatore Fiorello

Fiorello paints the edges of places: fences, hedges, windows and paths, often at dusk. He starts from photographs taken on long bike rides, then paints in thin layers with a narrow range of colour. He keeps the locations vague on purpose. “I think if specifics are spelled out it can stifle the viewer from attaching their own feelings of nostalgia and deja vu to the work,” he told Blue Shop Gallery in 2024.

His War Child piece, Interval, is oil on plywood. It shows a woodland edge in warm brick reds and peach. A dark tree trunk rises on the left, while a bank of leaves glints with small flecks of turquoise and lilac. Below, low sunlight cuts a pale band across a path, broken up by long shadows. The grain of the wood shows through the thin paint in places.

Small size suits him, since most of his paintings are only a little bigger than this one. He has shown in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition several times, including in 2026, and had two recent solo shows at Blue Shop Gallery in Oval. So a bid here buys a typical example of his work rather than a sketch.
