Vanessa Bell (1879 to 1961) is the Bloomsbury painter and designer who made Charleston in Sussex her home and studio. Here you will find our take on her work, Tate Britain’s Inside Bloomsbury show opening in November 2026, and prints from £30.
Our take on Vanessa Bell
Bell painted portraits, still lifes and interiors, and designed for furniture, ceramics and textiles. With Duncan Grant she co-directed the Omega Workshops from 1913 to 1919, and in 1916 they moved to Charleston in Sussex, according to Tate.
Their creative partnership lasted more than 50 years, and Tate Britain’s Vanessa Bell & Duncan Grant: Inside Bloomsbury brings together more than 300 works, including a restaging of their studio moved from Charleston. It opens on 12 November 2026.
Tate holds 12 of her works. Its shop sells made-to-order prints of several, including The Tub.
