What it tracks
The Versa 4 counts steps, measures heart rate around the clock and records more than 40 exercise types. It starts tracking some workouts on its own, so a brisk walk gets logged even if you forget to press start.
Built-in GPS means you can leave the phone at home on a run or a ride and still get your pace, distance and a map of where you went. Active Zone Minutes counts the time you spend with your heart rate in the higher zones.
At night it tracks sleep stages and gives each night a sleep score. There is also blood oxygen (SpO2) tracking, a daily stress score and menstrual health logging.
Battery, screen and build
Google quotes six days or more on a charge, and a full charge takes about two hours. Turning on the always-on display shortens that.
The screen is AMOLED under Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The case is aluminium, 40.5mm square and 11.2mm deep, and it is water resistant to 50m, so you can swim in it.
It has NFC for contactless payments, plus a speaker and microphone. The box includes the watch, a small and a large band, and a charging cable.

The Versa 4 runs Fitbit's own software, not Google's Wear OS, so it does not get the app store you find on a Pixel Watch. If you want a full smartwatch rather than a fitness tracker with a screen, the Google Pixel Watch 4 is the step up.
Some of the coaching sits behind a paid Google Health membership. The Amazon UK listing includes three months, after which you pay to keep those features.
Check your phone first. Google lists iOS 16.4 or Android 11 as the minimum, and the watch needs a Google account to set up.
There is one case size, 40.5mm. On a small wrist it can look large.
