The Matador Pocket Blanket is a water-resistant picnic blanket that folds down to 11 x 7 x 3cm, a little bigger than a pack of playing cards, and weighs 108g. Open, it is 160 x 110cm, which seats two to four adults on wet grass, sand or a festival field. The current version is sold on Amazon UK as the Pocket Blanket 4.0, and on 5 October 2026 it cost £34.49 in black, shipped by Amazon.

How the Matador Pocket Blanket packs away
The blanket has fold lines printed on the fabric, which Matador calls the Easy-Pack Pattern. You fold it in half along the lines, and again, until it is pouch-sized, then slide it into a pouch sewn onto one corner. The pouch stays attached, so you cannot lose it on the beach.
Packed, it fits a jeans pocket, a bike bag or a glove compartment. At 108g it is lighter than most smartphones.
Using it outdoors
The fabric is water resistant, so it keeps you dry on damp grass. It is not waterproof, so it will not keep out water if you sit in a puddle for an hour.
Each corner has a small pocket you can fill with sand or soil to weigh it down. There are also four stakes built into the corners for pinning it into a lawn or a park on a windy day.
What changed from the old 2.0
The Pocket Blanket 2.0 is no longer in stock on Amazon UK, and the 4.0 has replaced it. Matador says the current version uses recycled materials that meet Bluesign criteria. The Easy-Pack Pattern is now printed on rather than sewn in, which Matador says improves the water resistance.
The size, the seating for two to four and the corner stakes are the same idea as before.

The limits
The fabric is thin, so you feel lumps and stones underneath, and it adds no warmth on cold ground. A padded picnic rug is more comfortable for a long afternoon.
Refolding along the printed lines takes practice the first time. If it is folded wrongly, it will not slide back into the pouch.
Four adults fit sitting up, but only two fit lying down.
