The Zonky Play Sofa is a kids' sofa made from six foam pieces that children can pull apart and rebuild as a fort, a slide or a den. The covers come off for the wash. It costs £249.99 in most colours and £269.99 in the teddy-fabric Chinchilla, with free delivery to mainland UK from Zonky, a Birmingham company that makes each sofa to order.

Put together, it is a low two-seat sofa for a playroom or a living room. Taken apart, the six pieces become building blocks that children can stack, lean and lay out however they like.
Each piece is shock-absorbing foam inside a removable cover. Zonky makes the covers in vegan microsuede, corduroy or teddy fabric, depending on the colour. The sofa is made to order in the UK or the EU, depending on where you order from.
Set up as a sofa, it measures 136cm across the front, 68cm deep and 50cm high. It arrives in one box of about 70 x 69 x 69cm, so check your doorway and hall before it comes.
Our Zonky Play Sofa review covers setting it up, washing the covers, delivery and the add-ons.
It is a big spend for a toy. At £249.99, the replacement cover set alone costs £69.99, so a damaged cover is not a cheap fix once the guarantee runs out.
Customer service reviews are mixed. Zonky has a TrustScore of 3.4 out of 5 from 75 reviews on Trustpilot, with complaints about broken zips, torn covers and slow replies to emails.
Returns need care. Zonky only takes back unused items in resealed packaging, and it does not do exchanges. If you want a different colour, you return it and order again.
It takes floor space. Even folded into a sofa it is 136cm wide and 68cm deep, so measure the room first.
Zonky sells the sofa direct, with free delivery to mainland UK and dispatch in about a working day. It is not on Amazon UK. The OEKO-TEX label means the fabric is tested for harmful substances; the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 page explains what is checked. For more ideas for children, see our gifts for kids and big kids.
