What is Claude Cowork?

Claude Cowork is Anthropic's agentic AI for knowledge work, and it runs right on your desktop. Unlike a normal chat, you give it an outcome rather than a string of prompts. Then it works across your local files, folders and everyday apps to bring back a finished result.

In practice, that means it can tidy a messy Downloads folder, pull a report together from scattered source files, or synthesise research while you get on with something else. Because it uses the same engine that powers Claude Code, it also handles long, multi step jobs with no terminal in sight. Naturally, a free week is the easiest way to see whether it clicks for you.

What your Claude Cowork free week includes

So what do you actually get? Your invite unlocks a full week of Cowork with no upfront payment. During that week, Claude can read and write your local files, build proper Excel spreadsheets with working formulas, put together PowerPoint decks, and even open Chrome to click through websites for you.

On top of that, you can set scheduled tasks that run on their own and group related work into projects with their own files and memory. How to claim your free week of Cowork

The whole thing takes a couple of minutes. Here is the order of play:

1. First, click our invite button. It opens the Claude referral page in a new tab.
2. Next, sign in to your Claude account, or create a free one if you are new.
3. Then accept the invite to switch on your Claude Cowork free week.
4. After that, download the Claude desktop app for macOS or Windows so Claude can reach your local files.
5. Finally, open Cowork from the message box, describe your task, and let Claude run.

Only three invites a month, so be quick

Here is the catch. Anthropic gives us just three invite codes a month to share, so they go quickly once word gets out. If you can still see the button above, there is a good chance invites remain available.

Who Cowork actually suits

Cowork suits anyone whose day is full of tasks that eat time without needing code. Researchers, analysts, operations and finance teams all fit the bill, plus freelancers juggling admin. After your free week: what it costs to carry on

Once the week is up, Cowork sits behind Claude's paid plans, starting with Claude Pro. At the time of writing, Pro costs around $20 a month, which works out at roughly £16 depending on the exchange rate and VAT. Max, Team and Enterprise plans then add higher limits on top.

Is the Claude Cowork free week actually free?

Yes. The invite gives you a week of full Cowork access with no payment and no card required upfront. Because it is a genuine trial, you can stop at any point without owing anything.

Do I need to pay after the free week?

Only if you want to keep going. After the week, Cowork stays available on Claude's paid plans, so you would need at least Claude Pro to continue. Otherwise, the access simply ends and you walk away.

Why are there only three invites a month?

Anthropic caps each member's invites at three a month, so we cannot give out more than our allocation. As a result, they can run out before the month does. Thankfully, the count resets at the start of each month.

What do I need to run Claude Cowork?

You need a Claude account and, for local file access, the Claude desktop app on macOS or Windows. Cowork is also rolling out on web and mobile, although desktop remains the best place for file heavy work.

Is Claude Cowork the same as Claude Code?

Not quite. Both share the same underlying engine, yet Claude Code targets developers in the terminal, while Cowork is built for everyday knowledge work with no code required. In short, Cowork is Claude Code's capability in a friendlier wrapper.

Can I use my free week on Windows and Mac?

Yes. Cowork works on both macOS and Windows through the Claude desktop app, and it reached full feature parity across the two. Therefore your free week behaves the same whichever machine you use.
