The Honeywell TurboForce fan is a small 30W desk fan with three speeds and a head that tilts up to 90 degrees. It stands on a desk or hangs on a wall, and Honeywell says you can feel the air from up to 7 metres away. Amazon UK had the black HT900E at £35.32, sold by Amazon and in stock.

What the Honeywell TurboForce fan is

The TurboForce is Honeywell's small air circulator, model HT900E in the UK. Instead of a tall tower or a pedestal, it is a round fan about the size of a dinner plate on a U-shaped stand.

Ideal Home measured it at 29cm tall, 29cm wide and 16cm deep, and it weighs about 1.2kg. That makes it small enough for a desk or a bedside table.

What it does

  • Three speeds: set with a dial on the back of the fan.
  • Tilting head: you angle it by hand, up to 90 degrees, so you can point it up at the ceiling to move air around a room.
  • Wall mount: the stand doubles as a wall mount, so you can hang it up and keep the desk clear.
  • Power: 30W, so an hour on any setting uses no more than 0.03kWh of electricity.

Key facts

  • Price: £35.32 on Amazon UK
  • Model: HT900E, in black
  • Size: 29 x 29 x 16cm
  • Weight: about 1.2kg
  • Power: 30W, UK plug
  • Noise: 39 to 56 decibels, according to the Amazon listing

Who the Honeywell TurboForce fan suits

  • Home workers with a hot box room: it fits on a desk and points straight at you.
  • Renters: it plugs in and needs no fitting, and the wall mount is optional.
  • Anyone watching their energy bill: at 30W it uses little electricity, even left on all afternoon.

The limits

It is not quiet on its higher settings. Ideal Home called it "the loudest we've tested", with a drone on medium and high that the tester found tiring. On the lowest speed it is much calmer, so keep it there for video calls or sleep.

The head does not swing from side to side. Amazon's listing mentions a 90 degree oscillating head, but the tilt is manual and only moves up and down. If you want air moving across a room, a fan that oscillates will do that job better.

The controls are basic. There is no remote, no timer and no night mode, and the speed dial sits at the back, which makes it fiddly on a desk.

It also cools only what it points at. Ideal Home found the effect falls away quickly outside the stream of air.
