Linder, born in Liverpool in 1954, is the British artist whose scalpel-cut photomontages came out of the Manchester punk scene, starting with the 1977 Buzzcocks sleeve for Orgasm Addict. Her work is in Tate, the V&A and MoMA. Linder prints include a signed edition of 75 made for her 2025 Hayward Gallery retrospective, which costs £150.

Our take on Linder as an artist

Linder cuts pictures apart and puts them back together so they say something else. She has done it for nearly 50 years, from punk record sleeves to her first London retrospective at the Hayward Gallery in 2025.

The Linder print on our editions page was made for that show. Soul Meets Soul on Lovers' Lips, Print Edition #2 is a black and white close-up of a woman whose only colour is her glossy red lips. It is small, signed, and limited to one per customer.

"The cuts made by my blades and scissors are perpetually liberating," she said when the Hayward show opened. You can feel that in even the quietest of her pictures.
