Last updated: 15 October 2026

This Leigh Bowery print is a 2025 edition of a 1989 portrait by the photographer Fergus Greer, made for Tate Modern’s Leigh Bowery! exhibition. It is a 63.5 x 50.8cm pigment print in an edition of 100, signed and numbered on the front. The Tate shop sells it for £320, and when I checked on 15 October 2026 only three edition numbers were left to choose from.

What the Leigh Bowery print shows

The photograph is one of the looks Leigh Bowery brought to Greer’s studio in 1989. Greer shot it on a large format camera, and it is part of the body of work the two made together.

Greer met Bowery in 1988, after watching his performance at Anthony d’Offay Gallery in London. Their collaboration lasted six years, until Bowery died in 1994. “Leigh used to rip up and re-make his costumes,” Greer told Tate, “so photography was really key to preserving his looks.”

Who Leigh Bowery was

Leigh Bowery came out of London’s 1980s club scene and worked as a performer, model, club promoter, fashion designer and musician. Tate says he treated clothing and make-up as painting and sculpture. Its Leigh Bowery! exhibition ran at Tate Modern from 27 February to 31 August 2025.

The limits

The edition is close to selling out, so you may not get a choice of number. Tate also says prices can rise as a limited edition sells out.

The page does not say the print is framed, so budget for a 25 x 20 inch frame. Delivery can take up to three weeks, which matters if it is a present.

Where to buy it in the UK

The Tate shop sells it online, as a tie-in to the exhibition. Delivery is free on orders from £60.
