AEROPRESS COFFEE MAKER

AeroPress Original Coffee Maker

Last updated: 5 October 2026

The AeroPress Original coffee maker is the plastic press the whole AeroPress range grew out of. It brews one or two cups in about two minutes by pushing hot water through a paper micro-filter, so the coffee comes out smooth and free of grit. On 5 October 2026 it was £35.00 on Amazon UK and £39.99 direct from AeroPress UK.

How the AeroPress Original works

AeroPress calls its method 3-in-1. Ground coffee soaks in hot water in the chamber for a short time, then you press the plunger, and air pressure pushes the coffee through a paper micro-filter into your mug. The short soak keeps bitterness down, and the paper filter stops the grit you get from a cafetière.

Cleaning takes seconds. You unscrew the filter cap, push the plunger the rest of the way, and the used coffee pops out as a dry puck into the bin. A rinse is enough for daily use.

What you can brew with it

The standard AeroPress recipe makes a smooth black coffee. You can also brew a short, strong shot and top it up with hot water for an Americano or with steamed milk for a latte. Cold brew and iced coffee work too, and AeroPress publishes recipes for all of them.

It is not an espresso machine. An AeroPress cannot reach the pressure an espresso machine uses, so the strong shot has no crema.

Who it suits

  • One or two coffee drinkers at home: it makes a cup at a time, so nothing sits stewing in a jug.
  • Travellers and campers: it is light, it is plastic so it will not shatter in a bag, and it brews straight into a mug.
  • Office workers: a kettle, a bag of ground coffee and the AeroPress replace the coffee-shop run.

Which AeroPress to buy

For most people the Original is the right one. AeroPress UK prices on 5 October 2026 for the rest of the range were:

  • AeroPress Go: £49.99, a smaller press that packs into its own mug for travel
  • AeroPress Clear: £54.99, the Original shape in clear plastic
  • AeroPress XL: £79.99, a bigger chamber for about twice as much coffee
  • AeroPress Steel: £159.99, the stainless steel version
  • AeroPress Premium: £189.99, with a glass chamber and steel plunger

I compared the Premium with the Original in my AeroPress Premium review, where the coffee tasted the same from both.

The limits

One or two cups is the maximum. For four people at breakfast, you will be brewing twice, or you will want the XL.

Paper filters are an ongoing cost, although a pack lasts months. A reusable metal filter avoids that and gives a heavier cup with more oils in it.

The rubber seal on the plunger wears out over time. AeroPress says to store the press with the plunger pushed all the way through, so the seal is not squashed, and sells replacement seals if it goes.

Where to buy it

Amazon UK had the Original at £35.00 on 5 October 2026, which was £4.99 less than buying direct. The AeroPress UK product page lists what comes in the box, the care instructions and the bundles with extra filters.

FAQs

How much is the AeroPress Original in the UK?

£35.00 on Amazon UK and £39.99 at AeroPress UK on 5 October 2026.

How many cups does an AeroPress make?

One to two cups per press, from a 10oz chamber. The AeroPress XL makes about twice as much.

Can an AeroPress make espresso?

It makes a short, strong espresso-style shot that works for lattes and Americanos, but it does not reach espresso-machine pressure, so there is no crema.

Is the AeroPress dishwasher safe?

Yes, on the top rack. For daily use a rinse is enough, because the plunger wipes the chamber as you press.

Should I buy the AeroPress Original or the Go?

The Original for home, and the Go if you mainly want it for travel, because the Go packs into its own mug.
