The PETKIT PuraMax 2 is a self-cleaning cat litter tray with a 76 litre rotating drum that sifts clumps into a sealed 7 litre bin. With one cat, PETKIT says you can go up to 15 days between emptying it. On 5 October 2026 it cost £379.97 on Amazon UK, sold by PETKIT-UK, against £499.99 on PETKIT's own UK shop, so Amazon was £120 cheaper.

How the PETKIT PuraMax 2 works
Your cat walks into a drum filled with clumping litter. Weight sensors register the visit, and a few minutes after your cat leaves, the drum turns. As it rotates, a sifter lets clean litter fall back and tips the clumps into a bin underneath. So you empty the bin, rather than scooping the tray every day.
The bin is sealed, and an N50 2.0 odour cartridge sits on top. PETKIT says the cartridge removes at least 98% of ammonia from cat waste and lasts up to a month.
The PuraMax 2 also has a new base. PETKIT calls it a seamless ShieldBase, and it seals the drum all the way round, so cats that wee high up the wall or along the edges do not leak out of it.
Safety sensors and kittens
There are 11 sensors, including weight and proximity sensors. The drum pauses if a cat is inside or close to the entrance, and it stops at an angle that keeps the entrance open while it turns.
PETKIT does not recommend the PuraMax 2 for kittens or for any cat under 1.5kg. If you have a kitten and an adult cat, the app has a Kitten Protection Mode that switches off automatic cleaning. The upper limit is 10kg per cat.
The PETKIT app
The tray connects to 2.4GHz wifi. The app sends a notification when a cat uses the tray and when the bin is full. It also logs each cat's visits and weight separately in a multi-cat home, which helps you spot a change, such as one cat going much more often than usual.
The cleaning cycle runs without the app. However, the scheduling, the per-cat logs and the alerts all need it.

The limits
First, some cats will not use it. International Cat Care's advice on choosing a litter tray says self-cleaning trays can startle cats with their movements and noises. Plan a slow changeover, with the old tray left out for a while.
International Cat Care also advises one tray per cat, plus at least one extra, spread around the home. A PuraMax 2 saves you scooping, but two cats still need more than one tray.
It is big. At 620 x 538 x 552mm it needs a corner of its own, on a hard, level floor at least 5cm from the wall.
Crystal and non-clumping litters do not sift. If your cat only uses crystal litter, PETKIT makes the Purobot Crystal Duo for it instead.
Finally, running costs carry on after the purchase. The N50 cartridge lasts about a month, and PETKIT sells refill bags for the bin.
