What the PETKIT Purobot Max 3 is

The Purobot Max 3 is PETKIT's third generation of automatic litter tray. Your cat walks into the drum, and a few minutes after it leaves, the drum turns. A sifter drops the clumps into the sealed bin and lets clean litter fall back, so you empty the bin instead of scooping.

Compared with the PETKIT PuraMax 2, the main changes are a low, wide entrance and a waste bin on the side rather than underneath. PETKIT's patented 360° ShieldBase also seals the base all the way round, for cats that wee high up the wall.

What the Purobot Max 3 does

  • Automatic cleaning: the drum sifts and empties itself after each visit.
  • Safety sensors: 12 sensors track weight and movement, and the drum stops at once if a cat steps in mid-cycle.
  • Multi-cat tracking: the PETKIT app tells cats apart by weight and logs each one's visits.
  • Smart Waste Covering: an optional setting that covers waste for cats that walk away without burying it.
  • Quiet running: PETKIT rates it at 35dB.

Who the Purobot Max 3 suits

  • Multi-cat homes: it logs each cat's visits and weight, so you can spot a change early and mention it to your vet.
  • Bigger or short-legged cats: the low, wide entrance is easier to step into.
  • People away for a weekend: one cat's waste fits in the bin for up to 15 days.

The limits

There is no camera. If you want to see which cat is in the tray, you need the Max Pro 2 or the Ultra.

PETKIT's 15 days is for one cat. With two or three cats, you will empty the bin much more often.

It is not for kittens under six months or cats under 1.5kg, and crystal or non-clumping litter will not sift.

Some cats will not use a moving tray straight away. International Cat Care says self-cleaning trays can startle cats, and it advises one tray per cat plus one extra. So keep the old tray out during the changeover.

Where to buy it in the UK

Amazon UK had the Purobot Max 3 at £469.99, which is £130 less than PETKIT's £599.99. The full specification and litter guide are on the PETKIT Purobot Max 3 product page.
