Cat care guides: every cat article in one place

Last updated: 2 November 2026

By Stiv · Design, technology and personal finance

These cat care guides cover everything I've written about living with cats: litter and self-cleaning trays, food and water, health and calming, pet insurance, and gifts for cat people.

I have two cats, and they have used PETKIT self-cleaning trays for more than two years. So the litter and tray pages come from daily use. The product pages give the UK price, the specs and the limits of each one, while the reviews and comparisons give my verdict.

Section 01 / Litter and trays

Cat litter and self-cleaning litter trays

Which litter to buy, the trays that clean themselves, and what to do with the waste.

Section 02 / Food and water

Cat food, water fountains and feeders

Fresh and gut-friendly food, plus the kit that slows down fast eaters and keeps water moving.

Section 03 / Health and calm

Cat health, grooming and calming

Calming plug-ins, teeth, hairballs and hot weather.

Section 04 / Insurance

Pet insurance for cats

How the main UK insurers compare before a big vet bill arrives.

Section 05 / Gifts

Presents for cat people, from a bestselling book to a Tracey Emin bowl.

FAQs

Which litter works best in a self-cleaning litter tray?

PETKIT says its Purobot Max 3 works with clumping clay, tofu, corn and bentonite litters. In my experience, a litter that clumps fast and holds together works best, because the rake sifts the clumps out soon after each visit.

Is a self-cleaning litter tray worth it with two cats?

For me, yes. My two cats have shared PETKIT trays for more than two years, and my Purobot Max 3 review covers the running costs and the catches.

Where can I get general cat care advice?

For health, behaviour and adoption questions, Cats Protection's advice pages are a good place to start. For anything urgent, call your vet.
