The Doc & Phoebe indoor hunting cat feeder swaps the food bowl for three fabric mice. You fill each mouse with dry food and hide it around the house. Your cat then bats it about until the kibble drops out through small holes. Dr Liz Bales, a US vet, invented it to give indoor cats something closer to the small, frequent meals they would catch outdoors. On 5 October 2026 it cost £25.42 on Amazon UK, sold and dispatched by Amazon, with 4.1 out of 5 from 4,963 ratings.

Each mouse is a hard plastic shell inside a fabric cover. You open the shell, pour in a small portion of dry food and close it again. Then you hide the mice in different rooms: on a shelf, behind a door or under a chair.
Your cat finds a mouse and paws or rolls it. Pieces of food fall out through the holes each time it moves. Once a mouse is empty, it stays where your cat left it until you refill it.
Doc & Phoebe suggests three mice twice a day, so your cat eats six small meals instead of two bowls. That fits the advice from International Cat Care, the cat welfare charity. It suggests splitting a cat's daily food into at least five portions, and says puzzle feeders make meals last longer and take more effort.
Most cats will not hunt a fabric mouse for their dinner on the first day. Start by leaving the filled mice next to the usual bowl, so your cat learns that food comes out of them. After that, put a little less in the bowl each day and a little more in the mice.
Once your cat is batting the mice for food, start hiding them. Put them in plain sight at first, then further away and higher up. Keep the bowl as a back-up until your cat eats from the mice every day.
Our gift guide for cat lovers has more presents for cats and their people. For a slow feeder that stays in one spot, the Catit Senses 2.0 Food Tree costs £16.
It takes dry food only. Wet or raw food would stick inside the shell, so a cat on a wet diet needs a lick mat or a slow-feeder bowl instead.
Three mice will not stretch across a multi-cat home. Each cat needs its own set, or the quickest hunter eats everyone's dinner.
The mice are small enough to vanish under a sofa. Count all three back in before you refill them.
Amazon UK sells and dispatches the kit itself. For how much to feed and how often, International Cat Care's guide to feeding your cat or kitten covers portions, meal timing and puzzle feeders.
