Terence Gower is the Canadian artist behind Enemies and Rascals, Artangel’s 2026 sound installation in a London archive. Here you will find our take on his work, his recent shows and how it is sold.
Our take on Terence Gower
Gower makes installations, sculpture and video about modern architecture and Cold War politics, often as research projects that run for years. “Abstract forms can communicate abstract ideas more effectively than representational or pictorial forms, and abstract art can be a political medium,” he writes on his own site.
His 2026 Artangel commission, Enemies and Rascals, filled the Original Cell of the Maughan Library with voices from the 1775 to 1776 American invasion of Quebec. He began researching it in 2023, and said on Artangel’s project page that the rhetoric around the conflict “resonates with unsettling familiarity today.”
No editions or books by him are on sale in the UK. His work is sold through his galleries in Mexico City, Stockholm and Paris.
