The Analogue Pocket is a premium FPGA handheld that plays original Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance cartridges. With adapters and community cores, it supports over 20 retro systems. Priced at $239.99 (around £270 to £300 delivered to the UK), it is the gold standard for retro gaming purists.
Most retro handhelds use software emulation. The Analogue Pocket takes a different approach entirely. Its FPGA chips physically reconfigure to replicate original console hardware at a circuit level. That means near-perfect accuracy, virtually no input lag, and audio quality that matches the real thing. You are not running an imitation of a Game Boy. You are running a Game Boy.
The 3.5-inch, 615 ppi display is ten times the resolution of the original Game Boy screen. Games scale perfectly with no blurring, and Analogue includes display modes that recreate each system's original screen quirks. It is the best way to see these classics in 2026.
Out of the box, the Pocket plays Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance cartridges. With optional adapters (sold separately), you add Sega Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Atari Lynx, TurboGrafx-16, PC Engine and SuperGrafx cartridge support.
On top of that, free community-developed openFPGA cores bring support for NES, SNES, Mega Drive, Master System, WonderSwan, Atari 2600, Pokemon Mini and dozens of arcade titles from Capcom, Sega, Konami and more. Over 20 systems in total on one device.
The Pocket is only sold direct from Analogue's US store. After shipping ($42), 20% UK import VAT and courier fees, expect to pay £270 to £300 for the standard model. The aluminium edition pushes above £500. The Analogue Dock (for TV output via HDMI, up to 4 controllers) costs $99.99 extra, and the Adapter Set (Lynx, NGP, TG-16) is another $99.99.

The Analogue Pocket is perfect for retro gaming collectors, Game Boy enthusiasts, and anyone who values authenticity over convenience. If you have a box of old cartridges gathering dust, this device gives them new life on a modern screen with zero compromise on accuracy. It also makes a brilliant gift for the gamer who already has everything. For a more in-depth look, keep an eye on our blog for our upcoming hands-on review.
